Surfcoast Compliance

Building permits

You submit your plans, and our registered building surveyor assesses your application against the relevant building legislation and regulatory requirements. We provide clear, practical guidance throughout the process, helping you move from application to permit with confidence. We specialise in domestic and light commercial building surveying for Class 1 and Class 10 buildings across the Surf Coast and beyond.

What we permit

  • Decks, verandahs, pergolas and sheds
  • Garages and carports
  • Fences, brick walls and retaining walls
  • Renovations, extensions and restumping
  • New homes and home relocations
  • Demolition of houses, sheds and other structures
  • Swimming pools and spas, including child safety barriers

How it works

You get an instant estimate on screen, then a registered surveyor confirms it. Once you go ahead, you send your documents and we assess the plans against the building regulations, siting, setbacks, easements and protection works.

If something is missing or does not comply, we tell you exactly what is needed rather than leaving you guessing, and once it is in order the permit is issued.

What you provide

  • A current copy of title and plan of subdivision
  • Your plans, and structural or engineering details where needed
  • The cost of works, and builder registration or owner-builder details
  • Domestic building insurance where the work is above the threshold

The quote form asks for what applies to your job, and a surveyor confirms the rest. The building permit levy is a State Government charge that applies to building work with a cost of works exceeding $10,000. The levy is calculated at 0.128 cents for every dollar of the cost of works and must be paid before the building permit can be issued. Once payment has been processed, the Building and Plumbing Commission (BPC) can allocate a building permit number. We will notify you when the levy payment is due to ensure there are no unnecessary delays in issuing your building permit. It is not included in your estimate.
